 Annette May I drove 700 miles round trip from Carbondale to Chicago to see The Libertines $15 a ticket and $20 for the red tour shirt with Carl's face with the words "Fuck 'Em" on the front. I was amazed how tight the band was on stage. I knew all the songs. I knew Peter wouldn't be on stage because I fell in love with their music and bought every magazine like NME and Q to keep up with them. As I drove back to downstate Carbondale, IL it took nearly 2 hours to get through the heavy traffic due to the interstate that was under construction. I was 2 months shy of my 41st birthday. My mom gave me shit about driving to Chicago. It cost me $70 in gas. She feared my car would break down in The Loop and I'd get hit by other cars. I told her I'm going no matter what. I knew this tour would be their last one in the USA. So far I'm right. I've been to many shows in St. Louis and SIU and The Libertines was one of the best shows I had the privilege to see live. Their brand new album is good but they've mellowed out since they've graced us with their presence. The Libertines Apr 18, 2024

Di fronte a un ridotto numero di fedeli, molto appassionati e assai rispettosi della musica e dello spettacolo, in un clima che ricorda GB84 di David Peace, la band scozzese ci fa fare un salto indietro di quarant'anni: tra la Thatcher e lo sciopero dei minatori, la piaggia costante (Happy when it rains, Nine million rainy days) di Glasgow (che - a parte il Celtic - è veramente una città di merda e vi giuro che piove, cazzo se piove), sensazioni ossimoriche (I love rock and roll/I hate rock and roll) e pastiglie "elaborate", il muro di suono ci travolge anima, corpo e orecchie per quasi due ore. Sembra musica fatta apposta per capirsi e per stordirsi, ma stasera scegliamo questa seconda opzione, perché in questa notte plumbea non ci frega proprio un cazzo di capire queste squallide Darklands in questo tempo sbagliato. Being a huge Black Crowes fan, I was totally stoked when I learned about Hookah Brown coming to the Wolf Den. Oddly enough the venue was practically empty for the show. Maybe 40 people attended this concert. I got to sit where I wanted to so I pulled up a bar stool in the bar area facing the stage about 40 feet straight back. Considering that I was using rather inexpensive recording equipment, my recording came out really nice. I’m referring to this as source one because there is a DAT recording, which I was able to use as a reference to pitch adjust my cassette master, which helped improve the sound on my recording. So if you’re a fan of Rich Robinson be sure to grab all of these recordings that I’m about to upload and share.
