Matthew was born & bred in the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina, and thus has a deep appreciation for the folk and bluegrass music that has been played in those hills for generations. Taking those influences, he mixes a unique blend of folk & rock, singable tunes full of emotion, energy, and rhythm. Citing 90s singer songwriter influences such as Sheryl Crow, Shawn Mullins, Shawn Colvin, Natalie Merchant, and, more recently, Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, and Andy Davis, Matthew's own songs are full of stories put to music.
