Matthew Mills grew up in southern Maryland and started playing guitar around the age of 15. Matthew was completely blown away after hearing The Yngwie Malmsteen album Trilogy. The album completely changed his world and he knew he wanted to take guitar very seriously. Matthew began to play guitar as much as 6 to 8 hours a day. Matthew also started to Listen to Vinnie Moore and Tony MacAlpine and then Joe Stump and George Bellas. The guitarist were a huge impact on his playing style.
